Lots of birds on Guam!

When I say there are no birds on Guam, I usually qualify that by saying that there are essentially no native forest birds left. There are Eurasian Tree Sparrows (which are all over the world) and Philippine Turtle Doves (also all over the world). However, these birds are found mostly in the inhabited areas and in relatively low numbers compared to other places in the world. That's why the other day, I was shocked to see this group of birds hanging out on the power lines. There were probably 100 birds in this area, a site rarely seen on Guam. The person who lives in this house on the left MUST be feeding these birds. Elsewhere in the world, a whole bunch of doves and sparrows sitting on wires would be unremarkable, but here, it's quite a noteworthy site! Posted by Picasa
